US Service Member Missing After Iran Shot Down Fighter Jet Has Been Rescued

Trump: US Airman Rescued in Iran in 'Miraculous' Operation

The United States said Sunday it rescued a service member missing behind enemy lines since Iran downed a fighter jet, as President Donald Trump escalated pressure on Tehran with a new looming deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran showed no signs of backing down, striking new economic and infrastructure targets in neighboring Gulf Arab countries.

The airman’s extraction followed a frantic U.S. search-and-rescue operation after the Friday crash of the F-15E Strike Eagle, as Iran also promised a reward for anyone who turned in an “enemy pilot.” Trump said he was injured but in stable condition.

“This brave Warrior was behind enemy lines in the treacherous mountains of Iran, being hunted down by our enemies, who were getting closer and closer by the hour,” Trump wrote on social media.

A second crew member was rescued earlier.

The fighter jet was the first American aircraft to have crashed in Iranian territory since the U.S. and Israel launched the war, striking Iran on Feb. 28. It has since killed thousands, shaken global markets, cut off key shipping routes and spiked fuel prices. Both sides have threatened and hit civilian targets, bringing warnings of possible war crimes.

Trump said last week that the U.S. had “decimated” Iran and would finish the war “very fast.” Two days later, Iran shot down two U.S. military planes, showing the ongoing perils of the bombing campaign and the ability of a degraded Iranian military to continue to hit back.

As Iran continues to exert control over the Strait of Hormuz, Trump, in a weekend social media post, threatened to unleash “all Hell” if it isn’t opened by Monday. He has issued such threats before and extended them when mediators have claimed progress toward ending the war on agreeable terms.

The other jet to go down was a U.S. A-10 attack aircraft. Neither the status of the crew nor exactly where it crashed was immediately known.

On Sunday, Iran’s state TV aired a video showing thick black smoke rising into the air, claiming that they had shot down an American transport plane and two helicopters that were part of the rescue operation. However, a regional intelligence official briefed on the mission told The Associated Press that the U.S. military blew up two transport planes due to a technical malfunction, forcing it to bring in additional aircraft to complete the rescue.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the covert mission.

In Kuwait, an Iranian drone attack caused significant damage to two power plants and put a water desalination station out of service, according to the Ministry of Electricity. No injuries were reported from the attack, the ministry said.

In Bahrain, the national oil company said that a drone attack caused a fire at one of its storage facilities, which was extinguished. It said the damage was still being assessed and no injuries had been reported.

In the United Arab Emirates, authorities responded to multiple fires at the Borouge petrochemicals plant, a joint venture of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. and Borealis of Austria. They say the fires were caused by falling debris following successful interceptions by air defense systems, but production at the plant in Ruwais, near the UAE’s western border with Saudi Arabia, has halted.

The strike came a day after Israel struck a petrochemical plant in Iran that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said generated revenue that it had used to fund the war.

Trump renewed his threats for Iran to open up the Strait of Hormuz by Monday or face devastating consequences, writing Saturday in a social media post: “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out — 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them.”

The waterway is a critical chokepoint for global energy shipments, especially oil and gas moving from the Persian Gulf to Europe and Asia. Disruptions there have injected volatility into the market and pushed oil and gas-importing countries to seek alternative sources.

“The doors of hell will be opened to you” if Iran’s infrastructure is attacked, Gen. Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi with the country’s joint military command said late Saturday in response to Trump’s renewed threat, state media reported. In turn, the general threatened all infrastructure used by the U.S. military in the region.

But Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi, told the AP that his government’s efforts to broker a ceasefire are “right on track” after Islamabad last week said that it would soon host talks between the U.S. and Iran.

Mediators from Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt were working to bring the U.S. and Iran to the negotiating table, according to two regional officials.

The proposed compromise includes a cessation of hostilities to allow a diplomatic settlement, according to a regional official involved in the efforts and a Gulf diplomat briefed on the matter. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss closed-door diplomacy.

Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, issued a veiled threat late Friday to disrupt traffic through a second strategic waterway in the region, the Bab el-Mandeb.

The strait, 32 kilometers (20 miles) wide, links the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. More than a tenth of seaborne global oil and a quarter of container ships pass through it.

“Which countries and companies account for the highest transit volumes through the strait?” Qalibaf wrote.

More than 1,900 people have been killed in Iran since the war began.

In Gulf Arab states and the occupied West Bank, more than two dozen people have died, while 19 have been reported dead in Israel and 13 U.S. service members have been killed. In Lebanon, more than 1,400 people have been killed and more than 1 million people have been displaced. Ten Israeli soldiers have died there.

President Trump's full Truth Social Post

WE GOT HIM! My fellow Americans, over the past several hours, the United States Military pulled off one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History, for one of our incredible Crew Member Officers, who also happens to be a highly respected Colonel, and who I am thrilled to let you know is now SAFE and SOUND! This brave Warrior was behind enemy lines in the treacherous mountains of Iran, being hunted down by our enemies, who were getting closer and closer by the hour, but was never truly alone because his Commander in Chief, Secretary of War, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and fellow Warfighters were monitoring his location 24 hours a day, and diligently planning for his rescue. At my direction, the U.S. Military sent dozens of aircraft, armed with the most lethal weapons in the World, to retrieve him. He sustained injuries, but he will be just fine. This miraculous Search and Rescue Operation comes in addition to a successful rescue of another brave Pilot, yesterday, which we did not confirm, because we did not want to jeopardize our second rescue operation. This is the first time in military memory that two U.S. Pilots have been rescued, separately, deep in Enemy Territory. WE WILL NEVER LEAVE AN AMERICAN WARFIGHTER BEHIND! The fact that we were able to pull off both of these operations, without a SINGLE American killed, or even wounded, just proves once again, that we have achieved overwhelming Air Dominance and Superiority over the Iranian skies. This is a moment that ALL Americans, Republican, Democrat, and everyone else, should be proud of and united around. We truly have the best, most professional, and lethal Military in the History of the World. GOD BLESS AMERICA, GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS, AND HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!

'Margaritagate' Sen. Van Hollen Embarrassed by DHS Again As He's Busted Over Latest Whopper

This guy, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), is really something. He’ll do seemingly anything to defame the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as they try to rid the nation of all the criminal illegal aliens that Democrats let in under the Biden administration.

Remember the “Maryland Man” controversy, when Van Hollen tried to make an alleged gangbanging illegal alien, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, into a hero for our times? He even flew to El Salvador in April of 2025 to visit Garcia in El Salvador, where he’d been mistakenly deported, to have margaritas. (The senator says he did not drink them, but they were very clearly on the table when the men met.)

Abrego Garcia is currently not incarcerated but faces federal human smuggling charges in Tennessee. What a sweetheart.

Van Hollen has found a new hero to glom on to, however: Ever Alvarenga, a harmless asylum seeker who was ruthlessly treated by ICE and now lies in a hospital with grievous injuries. Van Hollen posted to social media about the tragedy:

Ever Alvarenga, an asylum seeker, was driving to work Thursday morning when he was rear-ended by an ICE vehicle. He is still in the hospital after suffering significant injuries to his head, chest, back, & hands.

After the accident, he was detained & ICE now refuses to allow his attorneys to meet with him privately, a clear denial of the due process rights afforded to all under our Constitution.

ICE tactics are endangering our communities & violating the Constitution.

He included a photo of Alvarenga wearing a neck brace in a hospital bed. His face and hands are bloodied and bruised.

Here's a screenshot:

What a horrific story! Man, these ICE agents are just violent thugs trying to hassle innocent people.

Oh, wait — that’s not what happened at all, according to DHS. Fox News reporter Bill Melugin responded directly to Van Hollen’s tweet and told the real story:

The full post:

BREAKING: DHS tells @FoxNews that this “asylum seeker” is actually a Honduran illegal alien who has had a final deportation order since 2018, & when ICE targeted him in Baltimore, he fled in his vehicle at high speeds, slammed on his brakes and caused a multi car pileup, then he bailed out and ran away on foot before being chased down and arrested. DHS says two ICE agents were hospitalized as a result of the crash, and they are accusing Sen. Van Hollen (D-MD) of misrepresenting what happened here.

Oh. That certainly sounds different than what Van Hollen alleged, doesn't it?

Boom: Watch As Even Legacy Media Shuts Down a Dem Over Their False DHS Funding Narrative

Illegal Gangbanger Who Became Hero of Democrat Party Is Free and on His Way to Maryland

The Democrats will do anything to demonize federal law enforcement — even when the facts don’t support their narratives. Chris Van Hollen would rather get woke points from leftists than do anything to protect his own citizens.

Director Discarded by Library Board After She Refused to Move Almost 200 LGBTQ-Plus Books From Kids' Area

The director of a Tennessee county library district

Library Director Image

has been fired after refusing to remove nearly 200 of what she described in a letter as "'LGBTQ-plus themed/teen books" from the children's area of the branches she was hired to supervise.

She's been... discarded, so to speak:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — A dispute over more than 190 books in the children’s section of the Rutherford County library system ended with the firing of library director Luanne James following a board vote Monday night.

The decision came after a tense public meeting, where board members clashed over whether the titles should be moved to the adult section. At the center of the debate was the director’s refusal to relocate the books, a stance that drew both support and criticism from the community and officials.

Supporters argued the decision should remain in the hands of trained library professionals and warned against restricting access to materials. Others on the board maintained the issue was about oversight and determining what is appropriate for younger readers.

By the end of the meeting, James was let go from her job. The report by WKRN (linked above) added that the fate of the books is still undecided.

READ MORE: What a Friend the Trans Agenda Has in Librarians

UPDATED: Stephen Colbert Makes Newest Dumb Censorship Claim; CBS Responds

In case you're interested, here's the letter I mentioned near the top. As these kinds of pseudo-freedom lovers who just want to save the children (and did I mention, freedom) tend to do, it's little more than a caustic screed about allegedly fighting censorship. Buckle up!

I am disappointed that I lost my job as director of the county library system. I lost it for doing exactly what librarians are supposed to do, protect the rights of all community members to access books and information.

I was instructed by the Rutherford County library board to relocate well over 100 books, including LGBTQ plus themed/teen books. I refused to do so because I believe such action constitutes censorship, violates the first amendment and goes against my duty to uphold intellectual freedom through American Library Association guidelines.

Public libraries are community forums, serving the entire community, not just those who share the loudest voice or the most restricted views. Librarians should not be used as a filter for political agendas.

I stood up for the right to read —standing for the citizens of Rutherford County. I believe my firing is an unlawful act of viewpoint discrimination. This action hurts library patrons, not just the librarian.

I’ve worked throughout my professional career to gain the knowledge, experience and trust to become a library director. This trust compels me to fight for the freedom of this community to read freely. This includes the right of young people to access books and ideas, and to resist an order to essentially hide the books.

She closed the rant by saying she's "exploring all legal options to challenge this retaliatory termination," and that she thinks the board removing her is "illegal." Her hope, she said, was that her activism at the library "encourage[s] others to stand against the targeting of our public institutions."

CENSORSHIP, ANYONE? New: DNI Gabbard Declassifies the Details of Team Biden's 'Roadmap for Left-Wing Ideological Warfare'

Let's Hold the Left Accountable on the COVID Misinformation Deception

This is how they think on the Left. They are the virtuous victims here. The fact is that no one is targeting libraries or any other public institution from the Conservative side; if anyone is, it's them..

No, protecting the next generation from the normalization of mental illness by shelving LGBTQ-plus materials where only adults can access them is not censorship or anti-freedom. The parent is a child's first and best teacher; a mom or dad needs to be the one to decide what is appropriate, anyway, not people like this librarian with an obviously slanted political agenda.

In the video, they celebrate Bostonians giddily lining up and attending Opening Day during the 1950s. It is a world that is completely unrecognizable from today. Apparently, the Fenway Park got too annoyed at people noticing our national decline due to limitless third-world immigration and locked replies. Still, countless people have made insightful posts about it.

WE GOT HIM: Missing F-15 Crew Member Who Got Shot Down Over Iran Has Been Rescued

WE GOT HIM: Missing F-15 Crew Member Who Got Shot Down Over Iran Has Been Rescued

They’re going to make a movie about this rescue. An F-15 fighter jet was shot down over Iranian airspace on Good Friday. One pilot was recovered, but the other was missing. A massive search-and-rescue operation commenced, leading to another aircraft, an A-10 Warthog, taking fire and ditching in the Persian Gulf. That pilot was safely rescued.

To recap, from the standpoint of local time:

Shot down early on Good Friday. Rescued Easter Sunday morning.

If it were a movie plot, we'd roll our eyes at it for being too on the nose but here we are in real life... https://t.co/YxPKiVdGJB

There’s been a flood of conflicting reports about the operation, from extended gun battles between American and Iranian forces to Al-Jazeera, of all outlets, getting the scoop on the successful rescue of the second F-15 crew member, although they later clarified that American personnel were still in danger. It took more than a day to finally locate the weapons systems officer. President Trump posted on social media about the successful rescue mission and said no American warfighters would be left behind. The New York Times quoted a senior military official calling this rescue one of the most dangerous and complex in the history of US special forces operations.

The Wall Street Journal has more:

U.S. forces rescued an American aviator trapped in Iran in a daring mission early Sunday morning, according to two U.S. officials. The crew member had been stuck in Iran for more than 24 hours. A specialized commando force extracted the crew member with the help of air cover, one of the officials said.

All forces involved in the rescue are safely out of Iranian airspace, according to the officials. The aviator, who has not yet been identified, was one of two aircrew flying in an F-15E Strike Eagle when it was shot down by Iranian forces on Friday.

A U.S. military team rescued the other crew member on Friday and that person is now safe. The rescue comes less than two days before President Trump’s deadline for Iran to negotiate a deal with the United States or open the Strait of Hormuz.

From CBS News:

The downing of the F-15E fighter jet marks the first time a U.S. fighter jet has been shot down in combat in over 20 years, retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Houston Cantwell, a former F-16 fighter pilot, told The Associated Press.

At least four U.S. fighter jets have been shot down since the Iran war began on Feb. 28, but three of those were in a friendly-fire incident, the Pentagon said. On March 1, three American F-15s were "mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses," U.S. Central Command said at the time, and there were no casualties from that incident.

CBS News national security analyst Aaron MacLean on Friday provided insight on how the search and rescue operation for the missing F-15E crew member might play out, explaining the U.S. military uses highly trained forces known as Air Force Pararescuemen who are "dedicated" for such missions.

The missing crew member would have had first-aid gear and "training in how to administer self-care in case they're injured," MacLean explained, and would be equipped with communications gear to "let their chain of command know that they are OK, and ideally participate in their own rescue."

Iranian state media offered a cash reward for whoever captured the second aviator.

NYT with more details about the commando raid:

Finding the downed airman, who had been hiding with little more than a pistol as defense, had been the U.S. military’s highest priority over the last 48 hours.

The mission to save the crew member employed hundreds of special forces troops, dozens of U.S. warplanes, helicopters, and cyber, space and other intelligence capabilities.

U.S. attack aircraft dropped bombs and opened fire on Iranian convoys to keep them away from the area where the airman was hiding. As U.S. forces converged on the downed airman, a firefight erupted, two former senior military officials briefed on the operation said.

The airman was equipped with a beacon and a secure communication device for coordinating with forces mounting the rescue.

A senior U.S. military official described the mission to rescue the airman as one of the most challenging and complex in the history of U.S. special operations.

In a final twist after the weapons officer was rescued, two transport planes that would carry the commandos and the airmen to safety got stuck at a remote base in Iran. Commanders decided to fly in three new planes to extract all the U.S. military personnel and the airmen, and they blew up the two disabled planes rather than have them fall into Iranian hands.

The F-15E fighter jet was shot down in a region of Iran where there is significant opposition to the Iranian government As a result, the airman may have been able to rely on locals for shelter and assistance.

The crash also drew the attention of Iranian military forces, who were reported to have been scouring the area. The Iranian government asked locals for help finding the downed airman, and had offered a reward for the airman’s capture.

The C.I.A. often also plays a role in making contact with civilians willing to help vulnerable troops stay alive, a process known as “unconventional assisted recovery.”

CIA executed a misinformation campaign to confuse the Iranians:

2 relatives of Soleimani arrested by ICE after Rubio revoked their green cards

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked the green cards of two of deceased Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Major General Qasem Soleimani’s relatives living in the U.S., allowing them to be arrested by federal immigration enforcement officers.

“Until recently, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were green card holders living lavishly in the United States,” Rubio stated on X Saturday, identifying Soleimani’s niece and grandniece.

According to Rubio, Soleimani Afshar is “an outspoken supporter of the Iranian regime who celebrated attacks on Americans and referred to our country as the ‘Great Satan.’”

The two relatives were taken into Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody on Friday in Los Angeles, where they had been living.

“This week, I terminated both Afshar and her daughter’s legal status and they are now in ICE custody, pending removal from the United States,” Rubio announced. “The Trump Administration will not allow our country to become a home for foreign nationals who support anti-American terrorist regimes.”

Officials claim that Soleimani Afshar had celebrated military strikes against the U.S. during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. She also allegedly praised Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, after his father and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in an Israeli strike on February 28th.

According to the State Department’s news release on Saturday, while living in the U.S., she voiced “unflinching support” for the IRGC, a designated terrorist organization, and pushed its propaganda.

The department added that Soleimani Afshar’s husband “has also been barred from entering the United States.”

The secretary also recently terminated the legal status of Fatemeh Ardeshir-Larijani, daughter of former Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Larijani, and her husband, Seyed Kalantar Motamedi. Both individuals have since exited the country and are not permitted reentry.

Soleimani was responsible for Iran’s overseas military and intelligence operations until he was killed in a U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport in January 2020, when he was 62 years old. Trump administration officials at the time said that he was actively plotting attacks against U.S. personnel and interests in the Middle East and the strike was intended to quash those plans.

Soleimani supported armed groups across Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, and the U.S. considered him responsible for attacks that killed American troops in the Iraq War.

Media Turns Triumph into Grievance as Glover Shuns Identity Politics

Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian Jeremy Hansen

Americans watched with pride as NASA’s Artemis II mission lit the sky on April 1, 2026, a proud return of human spaceflight beyond low Earth orbit for the first time in over half a century. This was supposed to be a unifying moment — a demonstration of American ingenuity and the power of competition — yet the media couldn’t resist turning it into another identity circus.

The four-person crew — Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian Jeremy Hansen — earned their seats by training, skill, and experience, not by signaling or virtue badges. Victor Glover’s role as pilot also carries an honest historical note: he is the first person of color scheduled to travel beyond low Earth orbit, a milestone that should inspire young Americans of all backgrounds to pursue excellence.

So when a reporter tried to drag the mission into identity politics by pressing Glover on what it meant to be the “first Black man” headed to the Moon, the astronaut did what American heroes do—he put country and accomplishment first. Glover’s reply — that he hopes this will be remembered as human history, not “black history” or “women’s history” — was a quiet rebuke to the race-baiters trying to hijack a moment of national pride.

That sensible response should have been the end of it, but of course some in the press doubled down, with outlets reflexively mining every angle to turn triumph into grievance, even suggesting Apollo’s legacy somehow “didn’t represent humanity.” The predictable shape of today’s coverage reveals the media’s priorities: narrative over nuance, outrage over achievement.

Let’s be blunt — the mission belongs to science and to every American who loves this country’s daring spirit, not to the activists and reporters who stalk the margins looking for a race headline. Apollo was about beating the Soviets and proving what free people can do; the astronauts then were chosen for competence, not for optics, and the same meritocracy should prevail now.

If you love America, you celebrate Victor Glover and his crew for their skill and courage and you demand the media stop manufacturing division where none needs to exist. Patriots should cheer clear-eyed achievements, hold the press accountable, and insist that our nation’s greatest moments be remembered for what they are: demonstrations of American greatness and human possibility.

Rep. Miller-Meeks to Newsmax: Bohannan 'Too Extreme' for Congress

Mariannette Miller-Meeks to seek reelection in Iowa's First District
Christina Bohannan hosts roundtable discussion on abortion rights and health care access - The Daily Iowan

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, described her likely Democrat opponent, Christina Bohannan, as "too extreme and radical to be in Congress" during a Friday appearance on Newsmax.

Miller-Meeks, a physician seeking reelection in Iowa's 1st Congressional District, called the seat essential for Republicans to retain control of the U.S. House.

A June 2025 poll commissioned by House Majority PAC showed Bohannan leading Miller-Meeks 43% to 39% in a hypothetical matchup.

The district's June 2 primary and Nov. 3 general election will test that hold in a race that national forecasters in February have now rated a toss-up.

"The 1st Congressional District in Iowa is the key to the majority. It is a must-keep seat for us," Miller-Meeks said during an appearance on "Greg Kelly Reports."

Miller-Meeks, who grew up in humble circumstances, left home at age 16 to attend junior college, enlisted in the Army at 18, and worked her way through medical school, said she understands the struggles of working families.

She emphasized support for tax cuts that let people keep more of what they earn and contrasted that with Democratic votes to raise taxes.

Turning to Bohannan, who has run for the seat before and served in the Iowa House, Miller-Meeks said the candidate has "a very radical record."

During her time in the Iowa House, Bohannan voted against a proposed constitutional amendment to repeal the right to abortion and against a bill reducing the state income tax rate to a flat 4% by 2026.

She also opposed the "Back the Blue" bill that expanded police protections and penalties for protesters.

She cited Bohannan's former role as chair of the University of Iowa's diversity, equity, and inclusion program. She added that Bohannan had not condemned antisemitic comments by University of Iowa Democrats after the Hamas attack on Israel and had only recently emphasized border security and affordability when it became politically "favorable for her to do so."

"She's as far-left progressive as they come," Miller-Meeks said. "And it's not Iowa values, and it's certainly not America's values that she supports."

She predicted Bohannan would support impeaching President Donald Trump and would not back immigration enforcement or Customs and Border Protection.

"It's important that we don't go back to that ... we don't go back to impeachment after impeachment, after impeachment of President Trump, if they get the majority in the House," she said.

Trump Issues Stark Ultimatum: Iran Must Comply or Face Strikes
