Sen. Johnson to Newsmax: 'In a Sane World,' Midterms Wouldn't Be Close

Sen. Ron Johnson (Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images)

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., told Newsmax Wednesday he hopes sanity prevails in the 2026 midterm elections.

"In a sane world, these elections wouldn't even be close. The American public would recognize that socialism failed miserably and the Democratic Party, by and large, has been taken over by the radical leftists," Johnson said on "Ed Henry: The Big Take."

"Americans don't need to look any further than the fact that Iran is endorsing Democrats. That ought to tell you something," he continued.

"Democrats almost seem to be aiding and abetting our enemies, hoping that America loses because that will enhance their electoral prospects."

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps appealed to American voters last week to reject President Donald Trump's policies and use the midterm elections to change the makeup of the U.S. government. The IRGC did not explicitly endorse Democrats in its open letter.

"Democrats are only concerned about power. If you listen to Democrats on the campaign trail, they're not promising policies will actually lower costs, improve the lot of Americans," Johnson continued.

"They're promising investigations and impeachment of President Trump."

Johnson said the last time Democrats were in power, gasoline was more than $5 a gallon.

The national average for regular gasoline briefly topped $5 a gallon in June 2022 before falling below that level.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration attributed the 2022 increase to factors including rising crude oil prices, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, low gasoline inventories, and relatively low refinery production.

"Not because we were trying to stop an existential threat to America like President Trump is trying to do, because of their policies, their war on fossil fuels. So Americans have to look at how destructive Democrat policies are," he said.

"Your life — your life — is not going to improve. It will worsen."

The Wisconsin senator said he hopes for the best when it comes to his party maintaining control of the upper chamber while also praising Rep. Tom Tiffany, the Republican nominee for governor of his state.

"I know Tom is going to be an extraordinary governor, should the people of Wisconsin elect him," Johnson said.

"But the statewide races are razor-thin. I won my last one by a little over 20,000 votes," he continued. "You know, we've won some, we've lost some.

"So it's going to be a tough race."

Paxton 'Milk Cartons' Talarico's Absence From the Campaign Trail As Dem's Staffers Let the Mask Slip

Paxton 'Milk Cartons' Talarico's Absence From the Campaign Trail As Dem's Staffers Let the Mask Slip

As RedState reported on Monday, the momentum behind Republican Texas U.S. Senate nominee Ken Paxton is building, with two big weekend ad drops by Texas PAC, which produced a significant amount of buzz and has more people paying attention and talking positively about the state attorney general and his record of delivering for Texas, which translates to him delivering for the American people.

What is more fascinating is that as Paxton's Lone Star rises, his Democrat opponent James Talarico's appears to be in freefall.

As our sister site Townhall noted, Talarico has essentially been MIA since September 26, with 28 days left to go in this campaign.

Talarico has not been seen publicly in Texas in over a week, with his last appearance occurring on Saturday, September 26, before he took a fundraising trip to New York City. There, he was treated to a VIP fundraising dinner where attendees, like a filmmaker who labeled America a “shithole” and a group that advocates for child sex change surgeries, were charged $27,000 a plate.

According to local press, Talarico's campaign claims he is having a bad bout with the flu, which they say required a visit to urgent care.

Mmmkay.

Paxton's campaign was right on it, taking full advantage by putting out a milk carton photo of Talarico and asking if he's been seen.

LOST: James Talarico has been missing for 11 days. If seen, please return to Robert De Niro. https://t.co/MrmiLVyZRJ

— Attorney General Ken Paxton (@KenPaxtonTX) October 7, 2026

That is chef's kiss. The campaign even name-checked Townhall in this well-done ad: "Have You Seen James Talarico?"

😷I've had the flu and it don't look nothing like this. ðŸ˜‚

But this is not the only opposition rolling out in Talarico's absence. D.C. Reporter's editor-in-chief Matthew Foldi released this audio of an interview with Folasade Fashina, the Talarico campaign's Austin regional organizing manager, confirming what we already know: Talarico is a straight-up Marxist who is simply moderating for the cameras.

In this case, his support for "Palestine" and his distaste for the U.S.' support of Israel. Just as Talarico's "pastoress" also affirmed, once he is elected, he will work to institute all the warped, whacko, and leftist gobbledygook he has spouted in the open up until he decided to run for U.S. Senate.

In the closing days of James Talarico's race against @KenPaxtonTX, Talarico's own staffers could cause major problems for the Texas Democrat -- in this exclusive footage, one of Talarico's Marxist field organizers explains how she views him as the "vehicle" to push Texas drastically leftward, and that Talarico is actually far more anti-Israel than he publicly claims to be.

Unreal that both of these significant happenings are not getting as much coverage by the legacy media as they should. Instead, they are obsessed with a leaked audio of a Paxton call where a reporter asks: What are the issues that he thinks are dragging on his campaign? What do the American people think about tariffs?

Paxton answers honestly:

Just like the word "BREAKING," the X-verse grossly overuses the word "SCOOP."  How is this news? How is it revelatory or even detrimental to his campaign? The American people are fed up with Iran and the price of diesel, and those do factor into how this election cycle is going. Multiple outlets have reposted this audio and written about it, trying to take the wind out of Paxton's sails.

Newsflash: It's not working.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump and Paxton will share the stage in San Antonio, which can only increase that momentum for the Paxton campaign.

Talarico better call his pastoress to pray he gets raised from his purported sickbed soon.

‘The List of His Failures Goes On’: Unearthed Receipts Haunt El-Sayed As Obama Tries to Save Him

‘The List of His Failures Goes On’: Unearthed Receipts Haunt El-Sayed As Obama Tries to Save Him

Former President Barack Obama is preparing to ride into Michigan to help save Democrat Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who is now locked in a tight race with Republican Mike Rogers.

CNN’s KFile just unearthed a major problem with that rescue mission.

Footage and interviews reviewed by the network show El-Sayed spent years calling Obama’s presidency a failure and insisting the country was no better off after his eight years in the White House. Finally, something we agree on.

Will the unearthed comments create friction even as Obama is forced to grit his teeth and pretend Abdul is the right man for Michigan? Probably not. Democrats are well-trained theater kids. They'll keep up appearances.

Still, El-Sayed's criticisms will surely sting.

In a 2012 HuffPost essay penned right after Obama’s reelection, El-Sayed wrote that “this leader has perpetuated war, violated our civil liberties, deported more people from our shores than any other president before him, and the list of his failures goes on.”

And to my point on how the Resistance Party sticks together no matter how they feel about their colleagues, El-Sayed admits he still held his nose and voted for Obama.

El-Sayed continued, dismissing hope and change as “flowery prose and a winning smile,” calling Obama’s reelection “no victory” and “the rock we chose over the hard place,” and branding the Affordable Care Act a “watered-down reform that kowtows to the interests of healthcare lobbies.”

He basically took a machete to everything that defined the Obama years. And it wasn't a one-off.

By a January 2020 University of Chicago panel, the Michigan Democrat was still at it, warning his party not to repeat “the same mistakes of the past eight years under Barack Obama.”

“We are not, as a country, better off eight years after Obama was elected in 2008 than we were when he was elected," he told panelists. "And I say this as somebody who loves him deeply.”

It gets much, much juicier. El-Sayed argued that Barack was significantly responsible for the rise of Donald Trump.

The progressive "doctor" argued that Obama never changed the economic and healthcare systems that left Americans insecure, and that those failures helped create the conditions for Donald Trump.

“I appreciate the fact that we don’t give him credit for what he did for the economy in the short term. But the structure of the economy did not change under Barack Obama. The solutions to actually thinking about making sure that our healthcare system was equitable and sustainable, that did not change under Barack Obama," he said.

"And unless we’re willing to admit that, then we’re at risk of going right back to the edge of the cliff we fell off in 2016.”

They'll be shaking hands, patting each other on the back, and forming a united front to try and take out Rogers later this month. But it's going to be hard to ignore the backdrop of 'Hey, Barack, thanks for giving us the second coming of Hitler.'

El-Sayed responded to the KFile report with a wholly expected groveling reassessment of the former president.

“At 24, I watched President Obama win in 2008. He changed what was possible for someone like me, with a name like mine," the campaign said in a statement.

"Despite being dealt one of the toughest hands of any American president — he handled it. And despite all he did, there remains so much left to do. That’s where the next generation, inspired by him and his leadership, picks up," it reads. "We stand on the shoulders of giants — and I can’t wait to tell him myself later this month.”

Nobody had an easier hand as president than Barack Obama. Nobody had the full force of dinosaur media propping him up and pretending his biggest scandal was a tan suit. Nobody had his opposing political party kowtow to his incompetence for fear of being branded a racist.

Dealt a tough hand. Pffft.

As my colleague Nick Arama wrote, Obama's appearance signals that, despite mainstream polls suggesting El-Sayed is performing well in his race against Rogers, the campaign has some issues. And they know it.

"I'm thinking those internal polls must not be looking great for Michigan's Democrat nominee for the U.S. Senate," Arama wrote.

That tracks. It seems clear he's struggling not only with Jewish voters, but also with black voters. Black Democrats. And Obama is a means for him to show he has a black friend.

In a recent MS NOW focus group, black Michigan voters said Abdul El-Sayed was taking their support for granted because they are Democrats. One woman said she planned to mark uncommitted rather than vote for him, and another said he had missed chances to explain himself to black voters.

"If you're going to Congress to represent me, I need you to talk about what's going on in this community," one individual said.

Obama, the man he described as a failure, is being flown in to fix that problem. Will it work?

The French Are Toast

Parents and union members joined student protests in Paris as police pushed back crowds, used tear gas and cleared objects from the street during renewed demonstrations over France's education system.

France is beginning its death spiral — and the events are its own doing.

Did you ever have a teammate who you couldn’t stand? You know, the center fielder with the mirrored sunglasses. Or the basketball player who never gave you the right time of day or a pass for an open layup? On the one hand, you got an internal giggle when they struck out or were violently fouled. Couldn’t happen to a nicer jerk. On the other hand, at some point, you might have realized that their problem is your problem. Their failures and injuries make your being able to win that much harder.

Watching the destruction in France, I would like to smile and rejoice. The First Clown, Macron, rushed to recognize “Palestine” and has not missed a single opportunity to attack Israel for preserving the security of its citizens. He has been a complete jerk, but he was not the first complete jerk. French presidents have made it their business to hate Israel, and one must remember that Israel first attacked the Iraqi reactor in a French port before it was shipped to Saddam’s scientists. The daring bombing raid into Iraq was necessitated when the French insisted on sending and helping to build Saddam’s nuclear facility. In fairness, a long time ago, the French helped Israel with its reactor and military needs. Put a Kfir and Mirage jet on top of each other, and they are very similar. Still, for the past 25 years, France has been a pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel European piece of garbage. Its ambassador to the UK, Daniel Bernard, described Israel as “that sh**ty little country.”

So watching “les jeunes” (“the youth”) tear the country apart is something that goes well with a croissant and fromage. On the other hand, one might begin to ask some very unpleasant questions. Do you want a Lebanon-style civil war for a decade? Do you expect the Muslims to win and thus control France’s 290 nuclear warheads? What about the Jews — the nearly half a million who live in France today? France going down the toilet might make one briefly smile, but it would also mean great danger for Jews, Europe and the US. There is no question that French leaders brought their troubles upon themselves. For decades, they have been importing Muslims from their former colonies, and many of the new immigrants come poor and remain poor. For years, the press and officials have tried to hide the problems while blaming “youth” for burning cars and social unrest. Jews murdered for being Jews were ignored. Soccer victories or losses led to the same level of destruction and looting. The Republic did its best to hide its Islam problem. Now it has exploded, and every violent scene seems to have numerous Palestinian flags waving in the background.

Islam is totally incompatible with Western values, and no place has its own cultural heritage like France. Food, language, science, art, war fighting, philosophy — there is no area of human progress that does not include French contributions. France was always somewhat different than other European countries. For 43 years, it removed itself and its troops from NATO's military structure. And the country that helped birth the United States refused to fight in Iraq when George W. Bush came calling. I found an old Israeli cookbook that my wife has had for years. The author is a famous local chef, and in his book, he describes going from French town to town and how each had its own culinary secrets and history. He did his best to absorb their methods and ethos and bring French cuisine to the state of Israel.

The problem for France and the rest of Europe is that the required medicine is in their eyes far worse than the present disease. If one wants to go back to those family videos from the 1970s where everyone is white, and they all seem so happy, then he will have to be a remigration Terminator on steroids. Sink approaching boats. Eject by force illegal immigrants. Incarcerate second- and third-generation troublemakers forever. European societies, including France, could still save themselves, but after decades of one-way Muslim arrivals, the actions would be so draconian that the Normandy landings would look like a picnic in comparison. Could you see a French destroyer firing on and sinking a boat with migrants? Could you imagine an air armada to rival the Berlin Airlift in order to move hundreds of thousands of illegal entrants back to Africa and points beyond? Can you think of a shoot-to-kill order for anyone involved in public violence or disorder? Well, I can’t, and unless the French — including Marine Le Pen — can, then they are French toast.

Leadership often involves doing the unpopular because it is right. How much grief has President Trump suffered from his actions against Iran? But now it is becoming clearer that “good guy oil” is getting through the Strait of Hormuz while Iran can’t rub two nickels together because they no longer have any oil on the oceans to sell. The US bombed them heavily and is now financially squeezing them. The Iranian currency is down to 2.7 million rials to the dollar. Toilet paper is worth more than the rial.

If the French violence were something new or completely unpredictable, one might have more feeling for the French people — who elected Macron and his predecessors. But like a slow-motion car crash, everyone could see that noxious mix of Christian-hating Muslims being brought into the country and not being forced to become French. The leftist protests and violence of decades ago is nothing when compared with the Muslim violence just getting started. The French wanted to recognize Palestine to show those Jews a thing or two. They may get their wish and become Palestine North. I wonder if they will have Michelin Halal restaurants.

The events unfolding presently in France should be bright flashing red lights for other European countries and their leaders. But they have all drunk the same Kool-Aid, and they all have the same European self-loathing. They are waiting for their countries to be overrun, for their political torch to be transferred after a thousand years from Christendom to Islam, and are just biding their time attacking Israel and Bibi Netanyahu. While plain Israelis are saving jihadi-hijacked airplanes, the Europeans are letting their countries go to the jihadis. Why fight? They’re going to win anyway, and we can always watch Ireland defeat Israel in soccer. That will show those uppity Jews a thing or two.

Just as planes line up on the runway, so European countries are lining up to die. Which will become a new caliphate first? Ireland? England? France? Netherlands? Spain? Each is accepting huge numbers of immigrants who refuse to assimilate and come to hate their new, generous hosts. The violence in France should cause all of Europe to throw out its millions of unwelcome arrivals, but we live in an age lacking political creativity or courage. Le Pen or Farage will simply reduce the number of boats but will not address the bigger problems — until they too have been gobbled up in one final election before voting becomes haram.

One can still go to the Lafayette statue in Washington and imagine a great France. Or one can watch videos of De Gaullle entering Paris after the Allies pushed the Nazis out of the city. France has given the world much, and its presence in the West will be missed. As with all Islamic countries, its research, art, and gastronomic contributions to the world will dry up. So will its wealth and its Christian history. This outcome was not preordained. The French hated their history, culture, and colonial accomplishments. They asked to be destroyed, and they are getting their wish.

Barack Obama's Campaigning With El-Sayed Just Turned Very Awkward

Barack Obama plans to campaign in Detroit to boost Abdul El-Sayed support | The Weekly Times

There’s still time to cancel, Mr. President. Barack Obama is slated to travel to Michigan to help Abdul El-Sayed make his final case to voters as we close out the 2026 midterms. As we’ve noted, it’s déjà vu: every time this man has to go to a reliably blue state, disaster strikes. He did the same for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and she lost the state. The most popular Democrat having to venture up there suggests things aren’t steady, especially with black voters. And Obama isn’t going to change that in a couple of weeks. Also, El-Sayed trashed Obama’s presidency and has core agenda items diametrically opposed to the former president's.

And don’t take it from us: Cornel West also said that El-Sayed isn’t really aligned with ‘brother’ Obama:

“You got Brother El-Sayed saying on the one hand, you got genocide in Gaza, you’ve got Wall Street bailed out, and you’ve got single-payer healthcare. Those are crucial issues for him. Brother Barack Obama opposes all of those. Why? Because he is part of the central, moderate, neoliberal wing of the Democratic Party, and he is a masterful campaigner. You can’t, you can’t downplay that. And he helps candidates, but there is a certain hypocrisy saying, what these red lines are, genocide in Gaza, single health payer, and bailing out Wall Street, when he’s got a critique of corporate America that I resonate very deeply, but he wants to win, so I can understand that

This goes beyond strange bedfellows. These two guys aren't on the same page about anything.

And yes, El-Sayed has a black voter problem.

Texas: Trump delivers campaign speech in San Antonio, boosting local GOP candidates and bolstering Paxton’s push for Senate

President Donald Trump delivered a fiery campaign speech at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas, taking the stage to boost local Republican candidates and bolster Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s push for the U.S. Senate ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

Throughout the wide-ranging address, Trump leaned heavily into core campaign themes, touting his administration’s economic record and border enforcement policies while targeting Democrat opponents.

The event highlighted the high stakes for the Republican party in Texas, with Trump calling on his core voter base to mobilize in full force for the midterms.

The address was repeatedly punctuated by disruptions as multiple left-wing protesters interrupted the president mid-speech. Nonetheless, Trump dismissed the hecklers from the stage, asserting that the demonstrators were “paid protesters” funded by outside foreign entities to derail his rally.

The interruptions momentarily veered the speech off course, leading into unscripted riffs where Trump mocked political rivals, including Texas Democrat candidate James Talarico, while joking with the crowd about mispronouncing words like “vegan.”

During the Wednesday rally, Trump also vented his anger at Democrat Representative Henry Cuellar, calling him a “disloyal” and “extremely ungrateful” politician for refusing to join the Republican Party after receiving a presidential pardon.

The president explained to the crowd that he had intervened to spare Cuellar and his wife from severe federal bribery and money laundering charges — which could have resulted in a lengthy prison sentence in a top-level penitentiary — under the assumption that the Texas Democrat would show gratitude by switching parties.

Labeling Cuellar as unrespected and a “low-life” within Congress, Trump urged conservative voters in Texas to defeat the incumbent congressman in the upcoming midterm elections as “payback” for his betrayal.

Additionally, a top focus of the night was Trump’s enthusiastic endorsement of Paxton, whom he praised as one of the state’s most effective legal figures. Glossing over recent political friction within the party, Trump publicly praised Paxton as a steadfast ally in Texas and urged conservative voters to ensure a strong turnout at the polls.

In classic campaign style, Trump described the midterms as a fork in the road for the nation’s future, warning supporters that failing to cast their ballots would hand momentum over to far-left radical Democrats.

The speech concluded with a rally call for party unity and border security, reinforcing the Trump administration’s policy vision for Texas and the whole country. Despite the vocal interruptions inside the venue, the rally ended on a triumphant note for assembled supporters, emphasizing Texas’s role as a critical battleground for the Republican legislative roadmap.

El‑Sayed Dares President Trump to Michigan — Trump Slams Fox

May be an image of text

Democratic Senate hopeful Abdul El‑Sayed just threw down a public gauntlet: on a national TV interview he challenged President Donald Trump to come to Michigan and campaign for Republican nominee Mike Rogers. The president answered by blasting the network that hosted El‑Sayed, calling the segment “softball” and saying Fox News was “promoting the Dumocrats.” This little skirmish is more than cable drama — it could move votes in an already tight Michigan Senate race.

El‑Sayed’s Dare — Political Theater with a Purpose

On MS NOW, Abdul El‑Sayed looked straight at the camera and invited President Trump to show up in Michigan. “Please, I’m asking you, come to Michigan… I dare you to come,” he said, trying to paint Mike Rogers as nothing more than a Trump stand‑in. That’s classic campaign theatre: bait the big name to either accept and risk backlash, or decline and look weak. El‑Sayed’s goal is obvious — nationalize the race and make Rogers a Trump proxy instead of a local candidate with his own record.

Trump’s Reaction — Not About to Let the Narrative Slide

President Trump didn’t bite on the polite part of the invitation. On Truth Social he tore into the network that gave El‑Sayed the platform, calling the interview “softball” and accusing Fox of “promoting the Dumocrats.” Whether you cheer or groan at his delivery, the message is clear: Trump is watching this race and he will not let the media bigfoot his allies without comment. His public irritation also shows how nationalized the Michigan contest has become.

Why This Matters for the Michigan Senate Race

This seat is one of the most winnable for Republicans, and polls show the contest remains razor‑thin. Forecasters have jittered in recent weeks, with some moving the race toward Democrats and others keeping it a toss‑up. A Trump visit — or the spectacle of him refusing to visit — could move the needle. Nationalizing the campaign helps Democrats raise money and attention; keeping it local helps Republicans remind voters about pocketbook issues and crime, where Rogers wants the focus to stay.

A Simple Test: Let Trump Decide — And Let Voters Judge

If El‑Sayed really thinks a presidential cameo will help him, he should be careful what he asks for. The governor’s race‑style theatrics might energize conservatives who dislike outsider meddling, and they’ll remember who invited the outsider in the first place. The clean play here for Republicans is simple: if Trump wants to come, let him — and let Michiganders see the contrast for themselves. If Democrats are counting on safe media spins, they may be surprised by the real world outside the cable echo chamber.

Ellison Family Takes Over CNN as Trump Allies Gain Control

The Ellison family's ties to Trump and Israel raise questions over editorial independence at CNN and CBS.⁣ ⁣ Here's everything you need to know.⁣ ⁣ 🔗Tap the link in bio for more.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 📸 @apnews

Good riddance to the same old media monopoly. CNN is now under the control of the Ellison family and their Skydance-Paramount partnership, and that change matters. This takeover is a realignment of power in American news — one that President Trump has openly called for and that many conservatives have quietly cheered.

What changed: Ellison family takes control

The Ellison family’s Skydance-Paramount merger has folded CNN into a new media house led by David Ellison and backed by billionaire Larry Ellison.

🚨 CNN'S FATE MAY BE SEALED — LOOK AT WHAT'S ALREADY HAPPENING AT CBS 🚨 Netflix just walked away from its $83 billion deal for Warner Bros. Discovery. That clears the path

Mark Thompson will stay on as CNN’s chairman and editor-in-chief, but he now reports to new owners who are close to President Trump. This is the immediate development: new ownership, the same flag at the top for now, and big questions about how the network will be run going forward. Keywords: CNN takeover, Ellison family, David Ellison, Mark Thompson.

Why conservatives should pay attention

CNN has been one of President Trump’s favorite targets for good reason. For years the network framed daily news through a narrow lens and treated political theater like breaking news. Now that people with ties to the Trump circle have a seat at the owners’ table, conservatives finally have leverage to demand balance, accountability, and real competition in news. Don’t expect a magic overnight fix, but the power to change editorial direction is no longer purely in the hands of the same coastal elites.

Promises of independence — take them with a grain of salt

Mark Thompson says he secured assurances about editorial independence. That sounds comforting. But owners always promise they won’t interfere until reality forces a choice between profit and principle. The real test will be content decisions when newsrooms face pressure on big stories. Conservatives should push for transparency and higher standards, not just cheer slogans from either side. Keywords: media bias, editorial independence, news ownership.

Bottom line: this is a major moment for American media. The CNN takeover by the Ellison-led group changes the balance of media power and opens the door to real reforms — or to new battles over how news is made. Conservatives should stay alert, demand fair coverage, and—when necessary—call out bias wherever it appears. The next chapter for CNN could be an honest reset, or it could be the same script with new producers. Let’s watch closely.

Burgum to Newsmax: Trump Will Lower Gas Prices

Here's How Interior Secretary Nominee Doug Burgum Built His Fortune

Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum told Newsmax on Tuesday he is confident that President Donald Trump will bring gasoline prices down.

Burgum appeared on "Finnerty" after Trump signed an executive order designed to bring down the cost of diesel, directing states to expand access to red-dyed diesel, which is widely used in farming, construction, and other industries.

"President Trump is trying to explore every idea that will help get prices down for Americans," Burgum said. "He's pushing the limit to do everything he can to fight for Americans."

"President Trump, he got prices down on fuels in his first term," Burgum added. "He got prices down immediately when he took office this time. And now, he will get them down again after this temporary rise."

Burgum also blamed California policies for shutting down oil refineries, leading to higher gas prices.

"California imports 60% of its oil from foreign countries," Burgum said, adding that "they managed to get themselves dependent on foreign action as opposed to just producing it domestically."

"We're doing all kinds of things to try to get California back in the game," Burgum said. "But with them shutting down refineries, that's affecting the price of gas in Nevada and Arizona as well through the policies they have."

Burgum said Trump knew going to war with Iran could affect gas prices but argued that stopping Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon justified the action.

"If they had a nuclear weapon, they would give it to one of the 24 terror groups that they were funding: the Houthis, Hamas, Hezbollah," Burgum said. "Or they would say, 'Oh, America, you want oil? Here's what we're going to charge you, or we're going to blow you up.'"

"All of a sudden, they'd have all the leverage in the world," Burgum added. "We're seeing a change that no president was willing to make that's going to have benefit for our children and our children's children."
