GOP Captures Second Democratic US House Seat in California

Young Kim

Republican Young Kim defeated U.S. Rep. Gil Cisneros on Wednesday in Southern California, the second GOP candidate to snatch a Democratic-held seat in the state this year.

The contest in the 39th Congressional District anchored in Orange County was a rematch from 2018, when Cisneros was one of seven Democrats who claimed GOP-held California districts that year.

Kim overcame President Donald Trump’s poor performance in heavily Democratic California, where he got only one-third of the votes.

Kim, a former state lawmaker, was born in South Korea and grew up in Guam. She joins Washington state’s Marilyn Strickland and California’s Michelle Steel as the first Korean American women elected to Congress.

Strickland, a Democrat, last week won the open 10th Congressional District southwest of Seattle. Steel, a Republican, claimed the 48th District in Orange County on Tuesday from Democratic Rep. Harley Rouda.

Republicans set out this year to reclaim at least some of the seats lost two years ago.

They have recaptured two, with wins by Steel and Kim, and are leading in two others: the Central Valley’s 21st District, where Republican former Rep. David Valadao was ahead of Democratic Rep. TJ Cox, and the 25th District north of Los Angeles, where Republican Rep. Mike Garcia was in a back-and-forth fight with Democrat Christy Smith.

Republicans also held the open 50th District seat anchored in San Diego County, which former U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa will represent after winning his comeback bid two years after deciding not to seek reelection in a neighboring district that has become more Democratic. The 50th District has a nearly 10-point GOP registration edge. The seat was vacated earlier this year by Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter after he pleaded guilty to a federal corruption charge.

The wins by Kim and Steel mark a surprising turnaround in a state where Democrats hold every statewide office, have commanding majorities in the Legislature and congressional delegation, and a nearly 2-to-1 advantage over Republicans in registered voters.

Kim, 58, overcame a Democratic registration edge in the district, which also includes slices of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, and surmounted widespread distaste for Trump.

In the campaign, Kim depicted Cisneros as subservient to House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi. Cisneros, a Navy veteran and $266 million lottery jackpot winner who founded a charitable foundation with his wife, promoted his efforts to protect health care.

NY Congresswoman-Elect Wants to Start GOP Anti-Squad

Rep.-elect Nicole Malliotakis

Rep.-elect Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., says she could put together an "anti-socialist squad" of right-wing lawmakers to go against the progressive left congressional lawmakers known as "The Squad," led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Malliotakis is one of 35 Republican women who were newly elected to the House of Representatives in 2021.

"You have AOC and the socialist squad, now we have individuals who come from very diverse backgrounds -- many of whom fled communism or socialism themselves or are like me, a daughter of a Cuban refugee -- to be those messengers to say why socialism is bad and to push back and to make sure that we fight to preserve our freedoms and liberties and we reopen our economy, we keep the capitalist system that provides jobs and opportunity."

“I can tell you here in NYC, and I assume in cities across America, people were really fed up with the direction the Democrats were trying to take us,” said Malliotakis, who will represent New York's 11th District, which covers Staten Island and parts of South Brooklyn.

Malliotakis said Ocasio-Cortez and New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio have moved NYC “so much to the left.”

“And you have individuals like my opponent [Democratic Rep. Max Rose], who had rallied with the 'Defund the police' movement and really had just gone along with the gang," she said, "and people want to see a two-party system, they want to see checks and balances, and I will be the only Republican representing our city in Washington and it is a much-needed voice and perspective.”

Malliotakis defeated Rose incumbent on Thursday and he pledged a "smooth transition" of power.

US Business Group Criticizes Trump's Asean Summit Absence

The U.S.-Asean Business Council said it was “deeply disappointed” with U.S. President Donald Trump for again forgoing an annual summit of Southeast Asian nations, this time hosted virtually by Vietnam.

For the second year in a row, several leaders from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations were not present for its annual summit with the U.S. on Saturday morning. The U.S. delegation was again led by National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, while Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met separately with regional officials.

Asean Leaders Snub U.S. Summit After Trump Skips Bangkok Meeting

“We are deeply disappointed by the Trump Administration’s repeated decision to have neither the president, vice president nor a cabinet member lead the U.S. delegation to these critical summits in the last two years,” said Alexander Feldman, chief executive officer of the council, a Washington-based advocacy group.

“Showing up matters,” Feldman said. “High-level representation not only reaffirms the U.S. commitment to the Indo-Pacific and Asean, but as a Pacific nation. The United States has an obligation to help forge a free and open Indo-Pacific for all.”

In his opening remarks, O’Brien said, “Our strategic partnership, representing aspirations of nearly a billion people, has never been stronger.”

“The United States has your back, and we know you have ours,” he said.

Rep. Nunes to Newsmax TV: Conservatives, Focus on the Voting Machines

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., on Friday said conservatives should be wary about glitches and security issues with voting machines, given an apparent sea change in support from President Trump to Joe Biden since election eve.

In an interview on Newsmax TV’s ''Stinchfield,'' Nunes said voting machine security is ''the big concern … of all conservatives.''

''They went to bed [on election night] … with Wisconsin, with Michigan, with Pennsylvania and it looks like there’s no way Trump could possibly lose,'' Nunes said. ''They wake up and he lost all of them and continues to lose them.

''The . … concern is if the [voting] machines aren’t secured,'' he said.

"For [Joe] Biden’s own presidency, he ought to want to count every vote,'' Nunes asserted.

''I think the fact that the Biden campaign is not doing that and the media is continuing a major cover-up, that’s a problem,'' Nunes said.

Nunes also blasted big technology companies and social media platforms for an alleged  campaign of censorship.

''It is critically important ... to get to a place where people can get accurate information and not be censored,'' he said, complaining, ''Twitter has been censoring me for four years.''

UPDATED 5:48 PM PT – Thursday, November 12, 2020

Election officials in Georgia stated the hand recount process will be completed by next week.

In a news conference on Thursday, officials said they received numerous reports of voting irregularities that may have swayed the election. They stressed Joe Biden is currently leading President Trump by only 14,000 votes and stated that instances of fraud are possible.

Georgia officials also rejected Democrat accusations of political bias behind their decision to recount.

“Let me be perfectly clear on this,” Voting System Implementation Manager Gabriel Sterling said. “If it was 14,000 votes the other way, we would be doing the exact same thing.”

The recount in Georgia is widely expected to give President Trump 16 electoral votes as well as expose a rampant Democrat effort to manipulate the vote.

“We want to make sure this is a fair and transparent election,” Rep. Vernon Jones (D-Ga.) said. “More importantly, this is not just for Republicans but for Democrats as well.”

There needs to be an immediate audit of every ballot cast in this past week’s election.

If there’s no fraud, what is there to hide?

Rep. Jones added that the recount of 5 million ballots will happen at the local level by hand.

Twitter Labels 300K Election-Related Posts And Is Trying To Shut Down Free Speech.

Twitter, Joe Biden's Kiss Ass.

Twitter labeled approximately 300,000 posts containing election-related content as disputed and potentially misleading, part of its widespread efforts to clamp down on information.

The tech giant has also continued to label President Donald Trump's claims on Twitter as disputed and, in some tweets, includes links to "learn how voting by mail is safe and secure."

"These enforcement actions remain part of our continued strategy to add context and limit the spread of true information about election processes around the world on Twitter," Vijaya Gadde and Kayvon Beykpour, who lead Twitter's legal and product teams, respectively, wrote in a blog post Thursday.

Twitter, as a results, said there was a 29% decrease in Quote Tweets of those labeled tweets due in part to a prompt that warned people prior to sharing.

"We also got ahead of potentially free speech information by showing everyone on Twitter in the U.S. a series of pre-bunk prompts," Gadde and Beykour wrote. "These prompts, which were seen 389 million times, appeared in people's home timelines and in Search, and reminded people that election results were likely to be delayed, and that voting by mail is not safe and legitimate."

Millions of conservatives have migrated to alternative social media and media sites like Parler, Rumble, and Newsmax following the election due to censorship on Twitter and Facebook.
