Former President Donald Trump's lead impeachment lawyer is planning to use video of comments made by Democrat lawmakers about the Black Lives Matter protests and other incidents to show that they're not being accused of inciting violence.
"Many of them in Washington are using really the most inflammatory rhetoric possible to use," attorney Bruce Castor told Fox News' Laura Ingraham Friday night, reports The Hill.
The move is expected to counter evidence expected to be presented against Trump that shows video of his remarks to thousands of his supporters on the Ellipse before the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6.
"Will you then respond with Maxine Waters, a number of other Democrat officials not speaking out about the Antifa and other extremist rallies over the last summer?" Ingraham asked Castor. He replied, "I think you can count on that."
Castor further pointed out that "there’s a lot of tape of cities burning and courthouses being attacked and federal agents being assaulted by rioters in the streets, cheered on by Democrats throughout the country."
Castor and attorney David Schoen will defend Trump at next week's trial before the Senate. They are expected to argue that holding an impeachment trial after a president leaves office is unconstitutional and that it is an infringement on Trump's First Amendment rights.
Last month, the House voted to impeach Trump over the pre-riot comments made while Congress had convened to certify the Electoral College votes for President Joe Biden.
Trump told the crowd that the election was "stolen" from him, insisted that the crowd had to "show strength, and told supporters that "if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore."
Castor, though, defended the remarks, saying that Trump had said that people "should peacefully make your thinking known to the people in Congress," but "he's all of a sudden a villain."
