Pelosi Claims Trump's Visit To Capitol Hill Shows Mission To 'Dismantle Our Democracy'

Pelosi: Trump coming to Capitol Hill with 'mission of dismantling our democracy'
Old Democrat Fool.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused former President Donald Trump of being on a “mission of dismantling our democracy” while speaking on his planned visit to Capitol Hill on Thursday.

“Today, the instigator of an insurrection is returning to the scene of the crime. January 6th was a crime against the Capitol, that saw Nazi and Confederate flags flying under the dome that Lincoln built,” Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement.

However, no images of swastika Nazi flags at the protest could be found after a Google search was conducted to find out what flags were flown by onlookers at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. Every “far-right symbol” observed was covered in articles by left-wing media outlets like CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post, yet, no images of Nazi flags with swastikas were shown.

“It was a crime against the Constitution and its peaceful transfer of power, in a desperate attempt to cling to power,” Pelosi continued. “And it was a crime against Members, heroic police officers and staff, that resulted in death, injury and trauma that endure to this day.”

Pelosi, a fervent opponent of Trump, misconstrued previous comments by the former president from last year, claiming that Trump would ultimately make himself a “dictator” during his four years in office if he were to win reelection.

“With his pledges to be a dictator on day one and seek revenge against his political opponents, Donald Trump comes to Capitol Hill today with the same mission of dismantling our democracy,” Pelosi said. “But make no mistake—Trump has already cemented his legacy of shame in our hallowed halls.”

Trump’s true comments, however, painted a much different story.

“He says, ‘You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?’ I said, no, no, no—other than day one. We’re closing the border, and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator,” Trump said, drawing applause from the crowd.

Ahead of the election in November, the former president will meet with a group of Senate Republicans for a policy-focused discussion while in Washington for a talk organized by the Business Roundtable.

According to a representative for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), he will also speak to the House Republican Conference on “growing the House Republican majority and the 2025 legislative agenda,” The Hill outlet reported.

After a highly tumultuous relationship with Trump during her time as Speaker, Pelosi now often takes part in fear-mongering tactics in order to deter voters from choosing the former president. She consistently warns that a second term for Trump would be disastrous.

The House voted twice to impeach Trump while it was under Pelosi’s leadership. She also pushed for an investigation into the protest on January 6th and chose the committee’s members.
