As RedState reported earlier, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. absolutely blistered his former political party on Friday in a statement outlining why he was suspending his independent presidential campaign bid and endorsing GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. "In the name of saving democracy, the Democratic Party set itself to destroying it," Kennedy said. "These are the principled causes that persuaded me to leave the Democratic Party and run as an independent, and now to throw my support to President Trump," he went on to say. "The causes were: Free speech, the war in Ukraine, and the war on our children." READ MORE: RFK Jr. Exits Presidential Race...and Endorses Donald Trump Kennedy's remarks followed similar ones he made after a court appearance in New York Wednesday where he was appealing a ballot access ruling. "The DNC is in Chicago talking about their commitment to voting rights, while they're spending tens, maybe hundreds of millions of dollars to keep me off the ballot," he told reporters while adding, "I don't think my father would recognize this party, and I don't think my uncle would recognize this party." The Kennedy family name is of course sacrosanct in Democrat Party circles, which RFK Jr. knows and which his family members, who virulently opposed his campaign and stances and endorsed Joe Biden, also know, which is perhaps why they issued their own statement in the aftermath of RFK Jr.'s announcement, calling his endorsement of Trump a "betrayal" of Kennedy family values, as we also reported:
Not surprisingly, the mockery and ridicule was swift: As I've noted before, the Kennedy family is the last family on this planet who should be lecturing anyone, let alone their own brother, on the issue of "betrayal" of family "values" - especially when you consider their incredibly sordid personal and political history. The list of Kennedy family scandals, corruption, and grotesque malfeasance is longer than Santa's naughty list, so here's a brief rundown of the highlight (lowlight) reel: There was Rosemary Kennedy's lobotomy, the murder trial for Michael Skakel in the Martha Moxley case, President John F. Kennedy's numerous affairs (not to mention affairs other Kennedy men had), the infamous Chappaquiddick incident in 1969 where Sen. Ted Kennedy left Mary Jo Kopechne to die, Ted Kennedy's sexual mauling of a helpless waitress in the mid-80s along with Sen. Chris Dodd in what has been referred to as the "waitress sandwich," the mafia connections, and more. 'Nuff said.
