Elon Musk's DOGE group recovered $2 billion from a Georgia
non-profit coalition that included one entity headed by Stacey Abrams,
the perennial losing candidate for something. The grant was part of a
$27 billion giveaway through Biden's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. This
fund achieved some notoriety in recent days when EPA Administrator Lee
Zeldin announced that the DOGE team had discovered $20 billion "parked"
in various non-profits; see EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin Finds the $20 Billion 'Gold Bars' the Biden Administration Tried to Jettison .
One of the winners in Georgia was a newly formed non-profit coalition called:
Power Forward Communities ($2 billion award), a
nonprofit coalition formed by five of the country’s most trusted
housing, climate, and community investment groups that is dedicated to
decarbonizing and transforming American housing to save homeowners and
renters money, reinvest in communities, and tackle the climate crisis.
The coalition members—Enterprise Community Partners, LISC (Local
Initiatives Support Corporation), Rewiring America, Habitat for
Humanity, and United Way—will draw on their decades of experience, which
includes deploying over $100 billion in community-based initiatives and
investments, to build and lead a national financing program providing
customized and affordable solutions for single-family and multi-family
housing owners and developers—with at least 75% of investments in
low-income and disadvantaged communities.
The organization was set up expressly to apply for the GGRF grant. It had only received $100 in funding during the 2023 tax year. Yet somehow, it managed to retain the services of a major law firm to file its return.
The hook to Abrams is her role with Rewiring America, one of the Power Forward Communities coalition partners.
Power Forward Communities was established in October 2023 as a coalition of groups led by Rewiring America,
a left-wing group that advocates for electrification policies and a
transition away from fossil fuel dependence. Abrams, who serves as
Rewiring America's senior counsel, said at the time that she was
"thrilled" to be part of the Power Forward Communities coalition. "This
is how we expand access to clean energy—by prioritizing housing, equity
and resilience," she wrote in an X post.
As the man said, wait, there's more.
Power
Forward Communities lists a large number of partners on its website
that it works with to implement its mission. Among its partners are the Southern Economic Advancement Project and Fair Count, two left-wing nonprofits founded by Abrams in the wake of her 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election defeat.
The
Southern Economic Advancement Project, which seeks to boost racial
equity and "economic power" in the South, is a fiscally sponsored
project of the Tides Center, a group known for giving millions of
dollars to left-wing environmental and social activist organizations, according to Influence Watch.
Power
Forward Communities' list of partners also includes the American
Federation of Teachers and the AFL-CIO, two powerful Democratic-aligned
labor unions.
American Federation of Teachers president Randi
Weingarten and Abrams both serve on the national advisory board for
Climate Power, which helped launch a $55 million advertising campaign in September in support of Kamala Harris's presidential campaign.
This is not Abrams's first time at this particular rodeo. She has a track record; see Admission by Georgia Non-Profit Puts Stacey Abrams and Raphael Warnock in the Hot Seat – RedState.
I
have some experience in grant writing, and the idea of a non-profit
with $100 in the bank getting a $2 billion grant is about √-1 without
shenanigans involved. The common theme seems to be Abrams. She was
general counsel for one coalition partner, founder of two partners, and
on the national advisory board of yet another partner.
Tuesday, a top DC prosecutor resigned rather than open an investigation into some part of the $20 billion GGRF grift; Top DOJ Prosecutor Walks Out Rather Than Investigate Biden 'New Green Deal' Grant for Criminal Behavior – RedState. It would be interesting to know which grant was under examination.
