Left’s Rush to Judgment Fuels Outrage After Fatal ICE Shooting

Renee Good’s family has officially hired Romanucci & Blandin — the same Chicago firm that represented George Floyd’s family — to investigate the fatal shooting of the Minneapolis mother by an ICE agent on January 7, 2026. That move was predictable: when a politically charged death occurs, the left’s playbook is to bring in its marquee lawyers, light the narrative furnace, and try to turn grief into a fundraising spectacle.

The basic facts are now public: video of the encounter, multiple flashpoints in the neighborhood, and conflicting accounts about whether the ICE agent’s actions were defensive as the vehicle moved. The Justice Department said it saw no basis for a federal civil-rights probe even as the FBI continues its investigation — a middle-ground that the left still denounces as a cover-up.

Meanwhile, the predictable escalation on the activist side has gone beyond calls for protests into menacing rhetoric that treats ICE officers like enemies of the state, with some commentators openly urging confrontation and even promising “war” against federal agents. This isn’t heated debate — it’s an embrace of street violence and intimidation, and Americans who love order should be alarmed that such rhetoric is being amplified instead of repudiated.

Let’s be blunt: law enforcement doing dangerous work deserves our presumption of support until facts prove otherwise. The administration and DHS defended the agent, saying he acted in self-defense after being struck by a vehicle; those are not trivial details and they matter in any fair assessment. If the left wants to rush to judgment and vilify officers while calling for confrontations, they should at least admit the risk their fury creates for everyday public safety.

And yet the media and local politicians have been all too eager to stoke outrage, framing the issue in broad, partisan strokes rather than doing the hard work of sober reporting. Twin forces — activist lawyers courting headlines and left-wing officials signaling moral certainty — are turning a tragic, complicated incident into another season of political theater. That kind of opportunism does real damage: it erodes trust, endangers officers, and incentivizes chaotic, dangerous behavior on the streets.

Conservatives should not be silent about a life lost, but neither should we tolerate a rush to lawless rhetoric and vigilante threats against people doing a hard job. Demand transparency, demand evidence, and demand accountability according to the rule of law — not by hashtag or mob. The family’s decision to hire a prominent civil-rights firm will put more facts on the table; let those facts, not fury, decide what happens next.
