It’s Time for the Senate to Fight Like Trump and Pass the SAVE America Act

As one of the Navy’s first F/A-18 Super Hornet pilots, I flew combat missions where hesitation wasn’t an option – because hesitation gets people killed. In that environment, you don’t wait, you don’t over-process, and you don’t second-guess the mission. You act because people are counting on you.

That’s what we’re seeing from President Trump right now.

In just the first year, we’ve seen results that Washington said weren’t achievable: no tax on tips and overtime, illegal border crossings reduced to levels not seen in decades, violent criminals taken off the streets, fentanyl flows cut dramatically, and the lowest murder rate in over a century.

We’ve also seen what strong leadership produces on the world stage. In Venezuela, a targeted operation dismantled a narco-regime that had fueled instability and drug trafficking for years. In the dead of night, with minimal boots on the ground, President Trump made the world safer.

If the Commander-in-Chief can act with urgency and resolve, the question is simple: why can’t the Senate?

Right now, they have a clear mission in front of them – it’s called the SAVE America Act. This is a straightforward step to strengthen election integrity that deserves the same level of focus and discipline we expect in any serious operation. As of March 2026, 36 U.S. states have laws requiring or requesting that voters show some form of identification to cast a ballot in person. But the Senate is stalling.

Voter ID and secure elections are not controversial outside of Washington, D.C. The latest Harvard CAPS/Harris poll shows a whopping 71 percent of Americans support requiring proof of eligibility to vote.

It’s simple – you show ID to prove that you’re eligible to vote. That’s it.

Hot Takes: Senators Taking off on Easter Break Is Rubbing House Republicans, Others the Wrong Way

When I represented northern Los Angeles County, I heard this consistently. Families, small business owners, and veterans all wanted the same thing: confidence that the system is fair and applied evenly.

In California, we’ve seen what happens when that confidence starts to slip – you lose trust fast when rules get loose, accountability disappears, and people feel like the system isn’t being enforced evenly.

The SAVE America Act is a chance to draw a line and fix it. But instead of moving with urgency, the Senate is slow walking something that should already be done.

Democratic opposition is expected. The concern is hesitation among Republicans, whose delay in this environment is a choice, not a necessity.

What President Trump is doing right now is exposing that most of the delay in Washington is by choice. While he’s cutting through bureaucracy, enforcing the law, and delivering real results, the Senate is proving just how much time gets wasted on excuses, process, and political caution. The American people are watching a President who acts with urgency and a Senate that acts like there’s no clock.

Hoping Democrats will suddenly come to their senses is not a viable strategy. Just look at what they’re willing to put TSA agents and American travelers through just for political theater.

The responsibility to act rests with those who have the majority and the mandate. The American people can see the difference between leadership that delivers action and institutions that delay.

If the President can take on global threats, disrupt criminal networks, and restore order at the border, then the Senate can pass one bill to protect the integrity of our elections.

The mission is clear: Move the SAVE America Act to the President’s desk and get it done.

Editor's Note: The Democrats are doing everything in their power to undermine the integrity of our elections.
