Tulsi Gabbard is reportedly stepping down from her role as Director of National Intelligence (DNI). According to her, she is doing so as her husband is currently battling “an extremely rare form of bone cancer.” Gabbard informed President Donald Trump of her decision during a Friday Oval Office meeting. Gabbard’s final day at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence will be June 30th. In her formal resignation letter, she expressed deep appreciation for her time in the administration. Gabbard wrote that she is “deeply grateful for the trust you place in me and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for the last year and a half.” However, family health issues have forced a shift in her priorities.
Acknowledging the road ahead, Gabbard emphasized that her husband “faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months.” Due to this, she felt it was necessary to prioritize her family over her career.
She also emphasized that his devotion has been central to her own endurance, writing, “His strength and love have sustained me through every challenge,” Gabbard continued. “I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position.” To prevent any impact on national security operations, Gabbard assured the president that she would manage her departure carefully.
