Trump travels to General Motors Proving Ground to celebrate auto industry revival

President Donald Trump has traveled to the General Motors Proving Ground to celebrate what he called a “roaring comeback for America’s auto industry,” arguing that his trade agenda made the domestic automotive sector “great again.”

While touring the Proving Grounds facility at General Motors on Monday in Milford, Michigan, Trump lamented how the domestic auto industry had been taken advantage of and sold out by globalist politicians. He stated that special interests led to foreign nations stealing American jobs, pillaging factories, and looting the crown jewels of what was once called America’s Motor City—Detroit.

Trump said Michigan finally has a leader who will stand up for auto workers and put America first.

“My policy is simple: if you make your truck or car in a foreign country, you have to pay for the privilege of sending it into our market, and making a lot of money,” the president stated. “But if you build your factory in Michigan or someplace in our country, and make your automobiles or trucks right here in America, you pay zero tariff.”

During his remarks, the president touted General Motors’ success in expanding operations, highlighting that truck and SUV production increased by 20% this year. He also pointed to an additional $9 billion investment by General Motors aimed at bringing auto manufacturing back home to the United States.

President Trump asserted that the results seen in Michigan could never have been accomplished if Democrats had won the presidency in 2024, adding that there would be no domestic auto industry left today.

 

He invited Auto Workers for Trump founder Brian Pannebacker onto the stage to say a few words to the packed crowd.

The White House stated that thanks to Trump and his America First tariff policies, automotive production was back and paychecks were coming home to American workers.
