Federal authorities and local law enforcement agencies launched a major joint law enforcement initiative dubbed “Operation Save Skid Row,” executing a series of coordinated drug enforcement raids across Downtown Los Angeles and surrounding residential areas. The multi-agency sweep, carried out by federal law enforcement alongside the Los Angeles Police Department and local task forces, targeted over two dozen alleged drug dealers and distributors accused of orchestrating narcotics distribution rings that deliberately preyed upon the neighborhood’s vulnerable homeless population. Law enforcement personnel served dozens of search and arrest warrants at private residences, temporary shelters and makeshift street encampments throughout the 50-block containment zone of Skid Row and surrounding neighborhoods. Investigators revealed that multiple suspects posed as homeless individuals living in tents to blend in while running open-air narcotics operations. The large raid resulted in major seizures of illicit substances, including lethal doses of fentanyl, illicit methamphetamine and cocaine, along with illegal firearms, high-end luxury vehicles and substantial amounts of cash accumulated through daily street sales. City leaders and prosecution officials described the action as a necessary step to dismantling the organized criminal networks that profit off addiction and perpetuate high rates of violent crime in Downtown L.A. Officials emphasized the need to draw a clear line between organized narcotics suppliers exploiting vulnerable residents and the unhoused individuals struggling with substance use disorders, promising expanded treatment access and shelter resources alongside strict criminal prosecution for high-level distributors operating in the district.
