MS NOW issues apology after falsely reporting Patel was in Russia: 'We regret this error'
The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) disputed a recent report from MS NOW that falsely claimed that FBI Director Kash Patel had traveled to Russia for a meeting on Tuesday, citing two “sources familiar with the matter.”
MS NOW aired a report on its morning show “State of Play” on Wednesday that alleged Patel had flown to Russia for a meeting, sparking widespread confusion when the FBI showed Patel was actually in Lynchburg, Virginia, at the time, attending a law enforcement appreciation event at Liberty University.
Later on Wednesday, FBI Rapid Response released a statement bashing MS NOW’s fake report.
“Left: MS Now reports two sources familiar say Kash Patel just landed in Russia Right: Here’s where Kash Patel actually is,” the FBI wrote. “Liberty U, doing a law enforcement appreciation event MS Now’s “sources” are “familiar” with NOTHING!”

MS NOW justice and intelligence reporter Ken Dilanian later addressed the error on air, maintaining that the network are “transparent” when they make mistakes.
“We do know now that he [Patel] has not already landed in Russia, as we reported earlier,” Dilanian said. “We regret this error, and we are transparent about when we make errors.”
Patel joined the backlash himself, voicing his frustration in a post on X where he called out the publication for its error.
“MS NOW just reported I had “landed in Russia” for meetings with the FSB. The same outlet constantly tells lies about this FBI and law enforcement’s historic achievements in safeguarding the American people,” he wrote.
“They owe an apology to this FBI, the men and women of law enforcement, and to the American people,” Patel added.

FBI Assistant Director Ben Williamson also called out the error on X, describing it as a “strange experience” to see reports placing the FBI director in Russia while simultaneously receiving photos of him in Lynchburg.
“I have had many strange experiences in life, but in tier 1 had to be seeing a clip of MS Now reporting breaking news that Kash Patel has “just landed in Russia” – right as I’m receiving pics of Kash Patel doing a law enforcement appreciation event today in Lynchburg, Virginia.”
