I did not have "Simone Biles attacks Riley Gaines" on my bingo card this week, and yet here we are.
Biles,
of course, won 11 Olympic medals in women's gymnastics, with seven of
them being gold, while Gaines was a champion collegiate athlete in
women's swimming and became a fiercely outspoken critic of having men
participate in women's sports after having to compete against
transgender swimmer Lia Thomas.
Gaines has made it her mission to protect women's sports and has been
instrumental in legislation passed and signed into law at the state
level, as well as the Executive Order on the issue signed by President Donald Trump in February.

The
Biles-Gaines X war started after Gaines responded to a tweet posted to a
high school girls' softball team's account by noting that the tweet had
the replies turned off for a reason:
For some bizarre reason, this set Biles off, and she issued a very cringeworthy, very juvenile response:
You’re
truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight
up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps
finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where
trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!!
But instead… You bully them…
One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!
And in another tweet that a third grader would be embarrassed to write, Biles wrote, "bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male @Riley_Gaines_."
Conservative commentator and former ESPN co-host Sage Steele had one of the better responses, shredding Biles for her betrayal of female athletes:
Easy to say this @Simone_Biles when you only had to
compete against fellow women. Every one of your Olympic medals came
competing against fellow women. @Riley_Gaines_ was not only forced to
compete against a man, but forced to share a locker room with a man.
THAT is SICK. Shocked and disappointed that you’d attack another woman
who has done nothing but uplift other women. If YOU think it makes
sense to create a league for trans people, go for it! Use that huge
platform of yours! But to attack Riley for what she has done for little
girls who want to be the next Simone Biles is……..sick.
Christian writer Kaeley Triller also went off:
This
is gaslighting, and the bully is you. You could be such a champion for
girls; instead you’re playing handmaiden to the boys running roughshod
over them.
Why?
For virtue signal points? Identities don’t play sports; bodies play sports, and make bodies have male privilege.
As we speak, little girls across the country are watching boys steal their state titles as they watch from the sidelines.
Where
the hell are you? Give your pretty head a shake. You’re on the wrong
side of history. Girls deserve bolder role models than the person you’ve
become.
Friggin shame, man.
Gaines also pushed back:
This is so disappointing. My take is the least controversial take on the planet.
Simone Biles being a male-apologist at the expense of young girls’ dreams? Didn’t have that on my bingo card.
Maybe she could compete in pommel horse and rings in 2028. https://t.co/Ptn35pyEvh

They weren't the only ones:
Okay you pick. Which of your friends on women's gymnastics Team USA are you replacing with a biological male? https://t.co/TM8ulTqcFH

And isn't it especially interesting that Biles, like Megan Rapinoe, has conveniently taken this stance only after she's hinted that she's pretty much done with competing and knows she herself won't have to compete against a trans athlete?
Indeed. What a sellout Biles turned out to be. Truly disappointing.
But thanks for bringing more attention to the utter absurdity of
positions like yours, all the same, Simone, bless your heart.
