Mo. Primary: Ex-'Squad' member Cori Bush defeated again by Rep. Wesley Bell

Former U.S. Representative Cori Bush, a prominent progressive and former “Squad” member, lost her primary rematch to incumbent Democrat Rep. Wesley Bell in Missouri’s 1^st Congressional District. 

According to Associated Press (AP) race calls, Bell secured the Democrat nomination by more than 20% points.

“I am honored and grateful that the people of Missouri’s First Congressional District have continued to put their trust in me to represent them in Congress,” Wesley posted to X on Tuesday.

“St. Louis is up against a president that is coming after our healthcare, our due process, and the paychecks of working families…The St. Louis region is a sleeping giant that is poised to become a major metropolitan area once again, a destination for families to live, work, and start a business,” he continued.

The result mirrors their 2024 matchup, when Bell defeated Bush to end her bid for a third term. Bell now advances to the November general election against Republican nominee Paul Berry III, whose platform centers on opposition to Democratic socialism.

“The City of St. Louis has become infected with socialist politicians and public policy responsible for DESTROYING Eastern Missouri,” the site said. “Paul Berry III is THE MAVERICK taking on corrupt elected officials and failed government in the St. Louis region.”
