Franklin Graham Urges Prayerful Voting in Midterms

The Rev. Franklin Graham urged Americans on Wednesday to carefully consider the differences between Republicans and Democrats before casting their ballots in the Nov. 3 midterm elections, highlighting immigration, election integrity, and taxpayer-funded benefits as key issues facing voters.

"Do you know who to vote for in the midterms? Let me give you some help, but you decide," Graham wrote in a post on X, encouraging Americans to examine the policy positions of both major political parties.

"The Democratic Party wants open borders, while the Republican Party wants secure borders. The Democratic Party wants noncitizens to be able to vote; the Republican Party supports requiring voter ID," Graham explained.

"The Democratic Party wants to give taxpayer-funded benefits like healthcare to noncitizens; the Republican Party says No to that. And there are a hundred more issues."

He concluded with an appeal to voters to consider their choices through the lens of faith.

"The choice is yours, but look prayerfully at what both parties stand for," Graham said.

Graham, the president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse, has frequently encouraged Christians to participate in elections and evaluate candidates based on their positions on issues such as religious liberty, abortion, and traditional family values.

His latest message comes less than two weeks before a consequential midterm election that will determine control of Congress for the final two years of President Donald Trump's second term.

Republicans are seeking to preserve their congressional majorities and advance Trump's legislative priorities, while Democrats hope to capture control of one or both chambers, giving them greater power to block the administration's agenda, conduct oversight investigations, and influence federal spending.

Graham's remarks also highlight the continuing importance of immigration and election administration in the national political debate.

Republicans have generally emphasized stricter border enforcement and voter identification requirements, while Democrats have opposed certain Republican-backed voting restrictions and advocated broader access to some public benefits for eligible immigrant populations.

Graham's descriptions reflect his characterization of the parties rather than universally held positions among their candidates.

The evangelist's appeal comes as religious conservatives remain an important constituency for Republicans, particularly among evangelical Christian voters who prioritize abortion restrictions, religious freedom, and conservative social policies.
