Rep. Chip Roy didn’t mince words on Finnerty when he warned Texans that James Talarico is “100 percent out of step” with the values that built this state, and his blunt assessment should wake up every hardworking voter. Roy’s critique wasn’t theater — it was a clear shot across the bow aimed at a candidate who keeps trying to recast his record for political convenience.

Early Voting Begins in US Midterm Elections

 In-person voting for this year’s midterm elections begins Friday, ushering in the final six weeks for Americans to decide who they trust to lead Congress through a cost-of-living crisis, a prolonged war in Iran and other pressing issues.

Election administrators say they’re prepared and confident the vote will be accurate and secure. Nevertheless, President Donald Trump has continued efforts to challenge certain voting methods and reshape how U.S. elections are run, through court challenges, a federal effort to identify noncitizen voters and efforts to obtain voter data from state election officials.

Friday is the start of early voting in Virginia. Voters in a handful of other states, including Idaho, Minnesota and South Dakota, are able to cast absentee ballots in person, typically at a local election office or voting center. More expansive early voting is scheduled to begin in those and other states in the coming weeks.

The Nov. 3 election includes votes for governor and state legislature in most states and will determine whether the House and Senate maintain their Republican majorities. If Democrats retake Congress, it will alter the trajectory of the final two years of Trump’s term, most likely leading to investigations and other oversight efforts.

The start of early voting comes at a time of deep angst among many Americans about issues including rising gas and grocery prices, the war in Iran, the looming risks of artificial intelligence and Trump’s immigration enforcement campaign.

It also follows an unprecedented spate of mid-decade redistricting for the U.S. House that began when Trump urged the Republican-controlled legislature in Texas to redraw its congressional map to help the party. California and other states followed.

The changes affect millions of people: Research shows 1 in 10 Americans this fall is a resident of a different congressional district than in 2024.

Those partisan efforts are expected to continue before the 2028 elections after a landmark ruling this year from the Supreme Court changed the scope of the federal Voting Rights Act’s protections involving racially discriminatory redistricting.

As the start of early voting approached, Trump was focused on efforts to expand the federal government’s role in election administration, even as the Constitution bestows the power to run elections on the states and, in some cases, Congress. The Supreme Court rejected Trump's bid to restrict mail ballots this week, but several of his administration's other efforts to influence the voting process and review state voter lists for potentially ineligible voters continue.

Trump for years has argued that widespread noncitizen voting is a concern in U.S. elections, and this year is no exception. His administration has said that hundreds of thousands of people are illegally on voting rolls across the country, while research continues to show noncitizen voting is exceptionally rare.

David Becker, executive director and founder of the Center for Election Innovation and Research, said he wouldn’t be surprised if the president continues “his disinformation campaign and his attack on election officials.” But he said he thinks despite that and other challenges, “ultimately the process will hold as it has in past years.”

Voting rights advocates have encouraged voters this year to cast mail ballots early, in part because of concerns about recent changes in U.S. Postal Service operations that could delay the application of postmarks to ballots.

“Voting early, whether in person or by mail, is good for all of our communities because it gives voters options, eases lines on Election Day and can even mean faster results,” said Hannah Fried, co-founder and CEO of the voting rights group All Voting Is Local.

In a press briefing Thursday, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon urged people not to be swayed by stories they might have seen or read that cast doubt on election operations. They would be able to vote “just like they always have.

‘Playing With Fire’: Dems Are Turning on Each Other Again, As Glorious Internal Chaos Continues

House Democrats spent their last full week in session before the midterms engaging in what has become a commonplace practice these days — fighting among themselves.

For the second time this month, Democrat Reps. Jared Golden (ME-02) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) 

 

 broke with leadership on a Republican rule vote, handing Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04) the floor and leaving Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) looking like a feeble man who cannot keep his own caucus in line.

Axios reports the defections set off a private food fight, with one senior Democrat warning that Perez is “playing with fire” and others whispering and worrying that Jeffries is too soft to rein in the defectors.

"Everyone in the caucus is sick of the bulls***. Everyone has their ... number," one lawmaker told the outlet.

The result is the same mess RedState documented after the first socialism-rule revolt earlier this month. Moderates are defying the whip, progressives are furious that Jeffries threatens them for breaking ranks, and leadership is insisting there is “no daylight” between them.

The knives remain out regardless. 

"We'll address the situation when we address the situation," Jeffries threatened, while another Democrat congressperson warned that punishment is coming for others who step out of line.

"Members have concerns about those who are not team players," the latter threatened, and "next year is the best time to address it."

 

"Marie is playing with fire," another lawmaker told Axios, adding that Jeffries "may not do anything now, but her committee appointment may be in jeopardy for next session."

Jeffries facing questions about his mettle after a week of rebellions.

Said one House Democrat: "If this is happening in the minority, are you prepared for what will happen in the majority?"

Golden and Perez have been ticking off their party by refusing to toe the line on a couple of issues, deciding they'd be better served focusing on their constituents' needs. What a concept.

The first break came when the pair crossed over on a 210-208 rule vote, offsetting five Republican 'no' votes and unlocking a package that included a resolution denouncing socialism “in all its forms.”

Leadership called it a “significant breach of trust,” Jeffries pointed the finger at Whip Katherine Clark, and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi piled on by saying a member voting for the other party’s rule was something “we didn’t even consider” when she held the gavel.

Oh, and House Rules Committee Ranking Member Jim McGovern (MA-02) had a childish temper tantrum over the whole incident.

This week the duo did it again, supplying the votes to move a GOP package that included a Russia sanctions bill Democrat leaders opposed — despite having already been threatened with punishment.

Colleagues who may have viewed the first vote as a mistake now call the second one flat-out defiance, and Clark was seen dressing Perez down on the floor while the rest of the caucus watched the sequel unfold. The conversation got so heated that Jeffries had to step in and break it up.

Perez and Golden seem relatively unfazed by the fact that they're driving their fellow Democrats batty.

"I don't worry about that kind of stuff. I will always vote my District and let others play inside DC politics games," Perez told Axios.

Golden added, "I'm a Mainer and an American. I'm also a proud Democrat, but that team is a distant third."

Most of this is just posturing and backroom soap opera stuff. But for a party known to keep all of its members in line no matter how extreme or ridiculous the stance they're voting on, seeing a couple walk off the Democrat plantation is eye-catching.

Talarico 'Outed' by His Own Pastor. The Undercover Video Is Damning.

James Talarico is running into a lot of Texas headwinds in his bid for the U.S. Senate. But an undercover video that is getting attention certainly won't be doing him any favors.

Because the senate candidate that is currently out-betaing Beto is running as a 'fake moderate.'

Whodathunkit. An undercover video with his lesbian minister has surfaced thanks to the investigative work at the Daily Wire.

“I can guarantee you that once he gets elected, he’ll change his tune back to where he was," said Rev. Babs Miller, minister to the parish at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, according to the outlet.

If you already had the sneaking suspicion that 'Talafreako' was a bit of a phony, what was your first clue?

Was it the time that he said "God was nonbinary," before trying to walk it back? 

Or when he claimed, "Modern science acknowledges six biological variations based on chromosomes to argue that sex is a nuanced spectrum, not a strict binary." Then he said, "I know there are two sexes, men and women."

Or when he said the fact that biological males are competing in girls sports is nothing but a "far-right conspiracy"? And also said, “I oppose trans athletes playing in girls’ sports if it endangers safety or fairness.”

Or was it when he was asked, "What is something that you love, other than family and friends?" Then he said, "I love, I’m just saying this because it's on my mind, the trans children who showed up yesterday at the state Capitol to advocate for their humanity."

And don't forget the time he was asked about his favorite drag queen in Texas, and he instantly said, "Oh, my gosh. Probably Alyssa Edwards." And that happens to be someone who self-describes as "a drag performer that works with children."

Other than that, seems like a totally normal guy. Well, not exactly.

Because not only is Talarico a bizarre guy, it's also obvious that he is completely dishonest. The Daily Wire article makes this clear.

Rev. Babs Miller, minister to the parish at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, was caught making stunning admissions about Talarico’s political makeover as he seeks to win over conservative-minded Texas moderates.

The newfound shift includes striking new positions, including support for a national ban on gender-transition surgeries for minors and opposition to transgender athletes competing in girls’ sports when he believes it threatens safety or fairness.

When an undercover journalist told Miller that Republicans were attacking Talarico over his “God is non-binary” comment, she responded, “Duh,” agreeing with the theological assertion before shedding light on his internal political strategy.

Then we get the classic "ends justify the means" rationale from the American left that has led the country down the path to hell.

When the minister was asked if Talarico had to “play this game,” Miller agreed.

“That’s what his campaign has convinced him of,” Miller said. “The Democratic Party is backing off on their stances on trans and all of this, and so his staff is encouraging him to kind of do the same thing, just for the next 50 weeks, whatever days.”

“I think it’s bad advice personally, but if it helps him win, okay…” Miller added.

Let's also keep in context who this "pastor" is. As RedState's Rusty Weiss reported, Rev. Babs Miller has members of her congregation who apparently wish Trump was assassinated.

“We still have people in this church who wish that the young man had not just nicked his ear, but had been more successful,” Miller said, according to the video obtained by Townhall Media.

Then there's this bit of bio that comes by the way of that same RedState article.

 

She came out as a lesbian in seminary and her church bio lists her as an “out” lesbian chaplain. If, you know, that kind of thing is important to you when it comes to choosing a pastor. Other profiles say she identifies as nonbinary and lesbian, which I guess is a woke package deal.

In an oral-history interview kept by the Presbyterian archives, Miller said she fought Texas rules that treat some gender treatments for minors as child abuse, and that she helped St. Andrew’s offer sanctuary to migrants.

Talarico's a real chip off the lesbian pastor block. 

As RedState colleague Jennifer Oliver O'Connell explained, Talarico's campaign is now facing "ill winds" and he may be getting increasingly desperate to appear more moderate than he really is.

Between the ad and the Sky McAdams/Texas Majority PAC video oppo drop, Talarico's Pandora's Box has been unleashed. It's no wonder he's trying to moderate and pretend he's every man. It's an inelegant attempt to paper over the ill wind blowing in his direction. It's a long way to Texas early voting on October 19, so expect more to come out of the woodwork on this.

These undercover videos showing who Talarico really is can help drive home to Texans that he is as phony as he is creepy. 

"Talafreako" is not just a nickname — it's an apt description of this very weird human being.

Hasan Piker Says Middle East Would Be More Stable If Iran Had a Nuclear Weapon

It’s easy to see why Abdul El-Sayed wants to separate himself from left-wing streamer Hasan Piker. 

In an interview with Axios, Piker said that he believes the Middle East would be more stable if Iran had a nuclear weapon. 

Piker said that America conducts more terror than Al-Qaeda. 

"You once said that America is the top dog in terrorism," Axios' Alex Thompson said. "Do you think America then is worse than al-Qaeda?"

 

"Pound for pound as far as the number of deaths, yes, we've caused tremendous terror all around the world," Piker said. "I think that that is not only terror that we are waging on regular civilians in nations in the periphery, but it's also having consequences on ourselves. It's having dramatic consequences on the home front." 

"One clear example of this is what we did in MENA (Middle East and North Africa)," he added. "There's no distinction between blowing up a school, triple tapping it with Tomahawk missiles. If you're killing 140 schoolgirls, that is an act of terror. This doesn't mean that all Americans are terrorists, but the reality of the matter is we have to create an environment of accountability to ensure things like that never happen again."

Why These Two Utah College Republicans Were Targeted for Expulsion by Campus Leftists

Two University of Utah students were threatened with expulsion for allegedly doxxing a student who held a cake mocking the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Kirk, a conservative activist who campaigned hard to break the Left’s stranglehold on academia, was shot and killed at Utah Valley College in Orem on September 10, 2025. They snapped a photo of a student who was on campus. This is not doxxing, though the student did incur the wrath of social media.

Campus leftists tried to expel Riley Barnes and Riley Beesley of the local College Republican chapter. Barnes admitted that the allegations of doxxing must be investigated by the administration, but it seems they figured out it was a lot of bunk (via KUTV):

The students facing discipline from the University of Utah have been cleared after accusations that they "doxxed" another student for bringing a "Happy Kirkiversary" cake to campus.

Rylie Barnes, the Vice President of the U of U College Republicans, said Wednesday afternoon that the case against her had been fully dismissed. The Chairman of the U College Republicans Riley Beesley confirmed with KUTV 2News his case had also been fully dismissed by the University.

 

In a social media post, Barnes shared an email from Associate Vice President Dean of Students Jason Ramirez

 

saying he had reviewed her case and did not believe there were grounds to charge her for any violation of University police. He added that he would ensure there would not be any marks against her record.

Apparently, the school’s College Democrats chapter deleted their Instagram page following the ruling:

Sen. Paul blocks Sen. Kennedy's AI 'kill switch' bill

Kentucky GOP Senator Rand Paul, a Libertarian-leaning conservative, reportedly blocked an attempt by Louisiana GOP Senator John Kennedy to quickly enact legislation mandating that artificial intelligence (AI) developers integrate a “kill switch” mechanism into their models.

Wednesday’s procedural block comes amid some growing bipartisan anxiety over AI, spurred by former OpenAI researchers warning of its rapid advancement. Proponents of the bill argued that unchecked AI development could soon slip beyond human control, posing existential risks to the public.

 

Kennedy’s (R-La.) bill would put an emergency shut off switch into the hands of the companies who created the tech—not the government—that could be used if the emerging intelligence were to become a threat to the public.

“We are not going to get up off our ice-cold lazy butts and address this anytime soon,” Kennedy declared. “But still we’ve got this risk out there that we know is real of one of these models becoming the Terminator.” 

Paul (R-Ky.), however, argued that a general mandate to implement a powerful shut-off switch could hinder the launch of AI tech into the United States’ economy, adding that the issue needs to be studied further before such decisions are made.

 

“I don’t oppose the spirit of this bill, but I do ask that we make sure that we have all the information,” the Kentucky lawmaker said. “If Congress acts hastily before the technology is understood, Congress risks killing innovation and setting this technology back decades,” he continued.

“Think, for example, that your search engine that you already use today is AI. Are they going to have to redesign all search engines immediately if this passes and put kill switches in your search engine? AI is going to be throughout the economy and so many facets. Are doctors going to have to build a kill switch into drug prescription analysis?”

Paul then called for Kennedy’s proposal to be amended — by establishing a bipartisan committee to study the threat posed by superintelligent AI and explore ways to stop any imminent threat to humanity.

Von der Leyen Invites PM Mark Carney into New EU Associate Role

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen surprised the room this week when she publicly invited Prime Minister Mark Carney to make Canada the EU’s first-ever “associate member.” The idea is bold. It is also not in the EU treaties. In plain English: Brussels just offered a new kind of tie with Ottawa that would have to be written from scratch.

What von der Leyen actually said

Von der Leyen raised the idea during her State of the European Union speech and looked directly at Mr. Carney as she did it. The chamber applauded. That was the political signal: Brussels likes the idea. But an “associate member” is a political invention, not a legal status today. Any real deal would need new rules, new approvals from EU capitals, and a lot more negotiating than the nice soundbite suggests.

 

Why Canada is tempted

Ottawa says it wants a “unique alliance,” not full EU membership. That sounds reasonable until you remember the reason: Canada is trying to diversify after a rough patch with Washington. Canada already has a big trade deal with the EU (CETA) and has joined the EU’s SAFE defence procurement effort. So the path for closer ties exists. The pitch from Brussels is a touring pass to more markets, rules and subsidies that suit some Canadian industries. In short: Canada may see Brussels as a useful backup plan.

Why Washington should pay attention

This is not just about trade. The United States, Canada and Mexico share integrated factories, energy grids and defense arrangements like NORAD. If Canada chooses to align rules on technology, critical minerals, energy and defense procurement with the EU, American firms and planners will suddenly find themselves asking permission from Brussels instead of Ottawa. That is a strategic shift. Washington should be firm about fair trade — but it should also be smart enough not to push an ally into a rival’s orbit by mistake.

The legal mess and the next steps

If you like legal puzzles, here’s one: the EU would have to invent this “associate member” status. Member states and EU institutions would need to hammer out what rights and duties Canada gets, who gets to vote, and which laws would apply. Expect careful footwork from Paris, Berlin and others before any deal takes shape. The Canada–EU summit coming up will be a key milestone.
